To reduce jet noise we must look at how other communities have reduced jet noise. Heathrow has some of the toughest standards in the world, and charge airlines on a sliding scale providing financial incentives for quieter flights through variable landing charges.

The result? "on average the aircraft that airlines use (at Heathrow) are 15 per cent quieter than the total global fleets of those airlines"

SFO charges landing fees by weight: "Landing fees collected from commercial airlines (passenger and cargo flights) are assessed per 1,000 pounds of maximum landing weight for each aircraft arrival."

I believe that landing fees should carry financial incentives for quieter flights.
